A Creative Clinic on Countertransference:  Using Art to Unblock a Therapeutic Relationship

Starts May 21, 2010

Satisfies the 6 units of Mandatory Legal and Ethical CE requirements for LCSW’s and MFT’s

Learn to use a quick and easily accessible method for identifying and resolving countertransference blocks in your therapeutic relationships.  Access the gold mine of information that nonverbal images carry.  Learn to translate your nonverbal expressions into problem solving ideas.

This workshop consists of two parts.  At the first meeting, you will learn the art process and practice interacting with your images.  You will have the opportunity to try the process and apply it to one of your challenging therapeutic relationships.  You will then have some important information to implement and/or experience in the time between our first and second meeting.  At the second meeting, we will review the process and gain insights and feedback regarding the method.  There will also be time for more art and a culminating experience regarding therapeutic relationships.

I’ve thought about a way to combine Legal and Ethical CE’s and art for several years.  This will be, by far, the most creative LE units you have ever received.

When:  May 21 and June 4, 2010.  9am-12pm

You must attend both sessions.   $150.

Cancellation policy:
A written request for a refund of registration fee (less $40 processing fee) must be postmarked 2 weeks prior to date of workshop.  No requests after that date will be honored unless I am able to fill your spot from my waiting list.

Using Art in Therapy Safely and Effectively
Intensive 6 month seminar
WORKSOHP IS FULL!!

Starts January 8, 2010.

18 CEU’s for MFT’s and LCSW’s

A training group for therapists who want to experience the transformative quality of art-making and learn to use creative expression to enrich their work.

Many people think that art therapy is about interpreting or figuring out the meaning of client art.  They ask, “What does it mean if someone draws a house without windows?”  The answers to questions like these are, at most, diagnostic and do not facilitate life changing experiences.  This seminar teaches therapists to GET PAST INTERPRETATION and inside the client’s art where clients can find their own solutions and initiate transformation.

This training group meets for three hours per month.  This allows enough time for consultation about current client art; an in-depth lecture on specific topics such as developmental stages of drawing and the neuroscience of art therapy; and a hands-on art making activity.

It will provide the opportunity for therapists to learn to:

use art to illuminate unconscious or non-verbal content.
invent meaningful art activities for clients.
bypass the cognitive mind.
engage clients in experiential dialogue with their art.
go beyond using art as something to make talk easier.
see clients from an artistic perspective.

When:

One Friday of every month starting January 8, 2010.

This workshop is FULL!!  Check back for Summer dates.

Brand New Workshop Starts January 2010

20 CEU’s

This seminar provides the opportunity for therapists to have a deeper, hands-on experience with their own creative processes. We will emphasize the traditional handwork skills that have been so easily replaced by modern inventions.  While they were once considered life skills, spinning, weaving, encaustic wax painting, mosaic tiling and embroidery still cultivate a sense of centeredness and mindfulness.  Each set of traditional skiills and materials embodies a therapeutic metaphor.  I will be team teaching with three talented artists.  Come integrate personal growth with professional development.  Deepen your knowledge of the therapeutic process and of yourself.

When:

Group meets for 8 sessions, $75/session, 2 Fridays a month, 9:30-12, starting January 22, 2010.

Dates are 1/22, 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 3/19, 4/9, 4/30, 5/7.  Minimal material fee.

The Creative Lens:  A Reflective Art Process for Therapists

20 CEU's

A part of this workshop will be presented at the STATE CAMFT CONFERENCE on April 22, 2010!

In this workshop we'll use a reflective art process to create and acknowledge the positive effects that client relationships have on our lives.  We will go beyond countertransference and explore the ways in which the therapeutic relationship can be transformative for both therapist and client.  Participants will be challenged to see clietns in new ways and to actively seek meaning as a way to preserve well being and heighten career satisfaction.

Altered book techniques will be the vehicle for this rich, reflective experience.  Each session will emphasize a different altered book technique and an important journaling theme.  By the end of the seminar, participants will be equipped to continue their own altered book journaling and to utilize altered books with clients.

When: Group starts January 22, 2010.

We meet for 8 sessions, 2 Fridays a month, 1pm-3:30pm.

Dates are as follows: 1/22, 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 3/19, 4/16, 4/30, 5/14.

Private Trainings and Retreats for Your Organization

Please contact Lisa Mitchell if you are interested in a retreat or training for your organization.  Lisa regularly trains and consults with agencies whose therapists and social workers desire to learn how to incorporate art into their work.  Because so few graduate schools offer in-depth training in expressive arts, many therapists find that they lack the tools they need to work with the populations with whom they work.  The following Sacramento agencies have benefited from Lisa’s trainings:  Terra Nova Counseling, Child and Family Institute, Family Service Agency, The Family Study Center, A Place Within, Martin’s Achievement Academy, Summit Eating Disorder Outpatient Clinic, Sacramento Valley Chapter of CAMFT, The Clinical Society of Social Workers, UC Davis Child Life Specialists, The Mother Support Network, The State Office of Aids, WEAVE, St. Joseph's Hospital, Sutter Children's Bereavement Art Group.
