Professional Journaling with Altered Books Discover the magic that happens when you dive into your creativity for a full weekend. Talk about getting into the ZONE! A Weekend Retreat 10 CEU's April 21 and 22, 2012 This seminar provides the opportunity for therapists and coaches to have a deeper, hands-on experience with their own creative processes. It also offers participants the all too rare opportunity to use creative expression as a reflection of the experience of being a therapist or coach. Altered book techniques will be the vehicle for this rich, reflective experience. Three different art invitations will emphasize a different altered book technique and an important journaling theme. You will create a niche to honor a part of self, a pop-up to identify and celebrate hidden resources, and an encaustic (melted wax) collage that narrates your creative process. By the end of the seminar, you will be equipped (and irresistibly inspired) to continue altered book journaling on your and to utilize altered books with clients. *Here's what participants had to say about this workshop:*

Started January 2012! 18 CEU's I developed this seminar in response to requests from participants of Using Art in Therapy Seminars. They really wanted a place to get in touch with their own creativity so that they could better access this place with clients. They also wanted more experience with art materials because practical experience with different mediums is very important when trying to assist a client in art expression. This seminar can be taken before or after the Intensive Workshop. And it’s totally fine to take it even if you don’t intend to use art with clients, because it will help your therapeutic process in many awesome ways. Here's the official description: This seminar provides the opportunity for therapists and coaches to have a deeper, hands-on experience with their own creative processes. You will find that this seminar will give you more confidence to use art with clients. It will also help you to restore and maintain a sense of personal balance. Emphasis will be on the use of art as a mindfulness practice. Focusing on moment-to-moment awareness of the creative process will provide you with an essential antidote to anxiety, stress, and compassion fatigue. Working with the inner critic as it arises will assist you in attuning to your client’s similar experiences when making art in session. Multiple materials (some quite out of the ordinary) will be offered so as to lend technical knowledge and new options for creative expression. This seminar promises to give you a sense of freedom and aliveness that will renew you personally and release you from the same old routine with clients.

Using Art in Therapy Safely
and Effectively Spring class scheduled! Starts April 27, 2012 . 12 CEU’s for MFT’s and LCSW’s A training group for therapists who want to experience the transformative quality of art-making and learn to use creative expression to enrich their work. Many people
think that art therapy is about interpreting or figuring out the meaning
of client art. They ask, “What does it mean if someone draws a house
without windows?” The answers to questions like these are, at most,
diagnostic and do not facilitate life changing experiences. This
seminar teaches therapists to GET PAST INTERPRETATION and inside the client’s art where
clients can find their own solutions and initiate transformation.

20 CEU’s This seminar provides the opportunity for therapists to have a deeper, hands-on experience with their own creative processes. We will emphasize the traditional handwork skills that have been so easily replaced by modern inventions. While they were once considered life skills, spinning, weaving, encaustic wax painting, mosaic tiling and embroidery still cultivate a sense of centeredness and mindfulness. Each set of traditional skiills and materials embodies a therapeutic metaphor. I will be team teaching with three talented artists. Come integrate personal growth with professional development. Deepen your knowledge of the therapeutic process and of yourself.
